Description:
The clients came to us with the brief to design a new 6 bedroom detached two storey family home, combining traditional symmetry with contemporary detailing and finishes. The large site offered plenty of flexibility for the project, whilst existing pine trees meant the design uniquely responded to the setting, allowing the new landscaped gardens to form a seamless connection between the verdant surroundings and a new home.
Inside, the new house features a generous en-suite master bedroom with walk-in dressing room, all set under high vaulted ceilings. Elsewhere are four double bedrooms, two offices and two reception rooms, as well as a sixth en-suite bedroom set within an annex over the attached double garage. As the main entertaining space, a large open plan kitchen, living, dining room looks out in multiple directions to the garden, with specifically positioned high vaulted ceilings to maximise the views and fully appreciate the surrounding trees.
To create more formal elevations facing the street, timber sash windows were used in contrast to the floor-to-ceiling glazed gables with frameless glazed doors found to the rear of the property, opening onto a private rear terrace. As the central feature a bespoke curved staircase is set within a fully double height entrance hall, topped with a contemporary glazed apex skylight, whilst a hidden feature is the heated underfloor heating throughout, solely powered using on-site renewable energy via air-source heat pumps.
