Description:

The site presented the client with an opportunity to create a new row of three terraced houses on a former timber yard, set on an otherwise residential street. Through careful design development each three-storey property features three generous double bedrooms on the upper floors, ensuring the terraced houses maximise the available space on a constrained site.

Looking to provide a layout appealing to most families, a separate kitchen and dining area is positioned to the front of each property, whilst large living rooms with hardwood flooring are located to the rear, each featuring wide glazed bi-folding doors to create seamless connections into their private rear gardens. Large roof dormers were included on each rear roof pitch, allowing the third floor, set within the roof, to easily accommodate a master bedroom and en-suite.

In line with the planning requirements an external material palette was chosen to be sympathetic to the urban setting, including London stock bricks and hanging clay tiles, which are all evident on existing houses along the street. To reduce the carbon impact of the development, and ease future occupants’ fuel bills, large solar PV panel arrays were added to the roof, whilst an extensive attenuation rainwater system below the driveways helps to significantly ease pressure on local surface water systems.
